Colossians 2:6-8

The World As We See It . . .

Simply put, a worldview is how an individual views the world.

For the Christian, who claims to be a follower of Christ, the Bible is the foundation upon which our worldview is built.

The Starting Point . . .

The basic foundation of any worldview must start with a person’s view of God, and answering this question:

  • Does God exist, or does He not exist?  God is or God is not.

The Three “isms” . . .

  • Atheism—the belief or view that there is no God; the existence of God can be disproved.

    • The Dilemma:  burden of proof that God does not exist rests upon them.

  • Agnosticism—the belief or view that there may be a God or supreme being but such a God cannot be known.

    • The Dilemma:  they have exhausted all means in seeking to know God and have found Him to be unknowable.

  • Theism—the belief or view that there is a God.

The Pressing Question . . .

Is belief in God rational?

    • God is beyond our comprehension, but not beyond being known.

The Revelation of God . . .

  • God has revealed Himself through general revelation.  (Acts 17:23-25; Romans 1:19-20)

    • Nature/beauty of creation

    • Intricate design

    • Order of universe

  • God has revealed Himself through specific revelation. (Colossians 1:15-20)

    • The Bible articulates clearly who God is.

    • Jesus Christ is the image of the invisible God.

      • God has revealed Himself with such clarity that all people are without excuse.

God Is . . .

  1. God is relational, which means He is personal.

  2. God is righteous, which means He always does what is right.

  3. God is ruler, which means He is sovereign.

Because God Is . . .

  • Because He is relational you can have a relationship with Him that is intimate and not distant.

  • Because He is righteous there is a way by which we can be forgiven of our sins and live a life that displays Christ-likeness.

  • Because He is ruler we must submit to His authority and the laws He has established.
