We’re launching a new teaching series this weekend about the family. But this is not just any ordinary family series—e.g., “How to Have a Godly Marriage” or “How to Raise Godly Children.” Rather, we’re going to talk about “Elephants in the Family Room.”

Have you ever heard the phrase “the elephant in the room”? It’s the image of a difficult issue that everyone knows exists, yet nobody wants to talk about it. An “elephant-in-the-room” issue causes friction, division, and wrecks relationships. An “elephant-in-the- room” issue prevents the cultivation of trust and the healing application of forgiveness.

Here’s something that you already know—there are elephants in your family room. There are issues in your family, issues in your marriage, issues with your children and/or your parents, issues with your siblings—issues that everybody knows about but are unwilling to address in a healthy way.

In this new series, we’re going to go straight for these elephants and address them: (1) Divorce & re-marriage, (2) Getting past your past, (3) Healthy sexuality, (4) Impacts of COVID on your family, physical, emotional, and spiritual), (5) Parenting, (6) Technology, and (7) Q&A.

As we tackle these elephants in the family room, the big question needs to be, “HOW are we going to do it?” After all, these are not easy topics . . . otherwise, they would be called the “cuddly puppy dogs” in the family room.

Here’s the important thing you and your family need to know as we launch this series and address the difficult issues in our families: “Your family needs the Gospel.”

Apart from the Gospel of Jesus Christ, you have little hope for a healthy resolution to these elephants in the family room.
