Treasuring Christ (2013)

Matthew 6:19-21

So, where’s your heart?  And what is your heart’s treasure?

Philippians 3:7-11

To Treasure Christ means . . .

·         I trust Him completely.

“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.” Philippians 3:7

·         I treasure Him above all things.

“Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord.”  Philippians 3:8a

·         I gain more than I lose.

“For His sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish in order that I may gain Christ,”  Philippians 3:8b

·         I pursue to know Him.

“ . . . that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and may share in His sufferings, becoming like Him in His death, that by any means possible I may attain the resurrection from the dead.”  Philippians 3:10-11

When I Treasure Christ . . .

·         You find life, and what it truly means to live. (Matthew 16:25)

o   Because Jesus gives what people and things can’t.

·         You find all satisfying joy. (2 Corinthians 8:1-5)

o   Because Jesus is better.

§  Put Him up against anything and He’s better.

§  Hold loosely the things of this world that you might strongly embrace the treasure of Christ.

The All Important Question . . .

What is the treasure I’m choosing to embrace?

Truth Statement:

You can’t hold on to the trinkets of this world and embrace the treasure of Christ.

·         In other words . . . you can’t hold on to the small things of this world and embrace the bigness of God.
