What are you looking forward to in the future? Maybe its an upcoming vacation, graduation, getting married, there are so many wonderful gifts that God has given each of us throughout our lives. But one of the biggest events that all Christians should be waiting for with great anticipation is the return of Jesus!
In today's teaching, Pastor Phil talks about three big questions regarding the return of Jesus.
Our main scripture is 1 Thessalonians, chapter 4, verses 13-18
But before we launch into our three questions lets rest in the assurance of this hope: Jesus Christ will return! (John, chapter 14, verses 1-3)
Question 1 - What happens if I Die before Jesus returns? If we are followers of Jesus Christ, He has given us several promises in scripture regarding where we go after we die. We will be with Him in heaven. This is our blessed assurance. (1 John, chapter 5, verses 11-13) (2 Corinthians, chapter 5, verse 1) (2 Corinthians, chapter 5, verses 6-8) (Philippians, chapter 1, verses 21-24)
But there is a flip side to this question, if followers of Jesus are going to heaven when they die, where do those people go who choose not to follow Jesus? The Bible is crystal clear on this point as well, if you die without surrendering your life to Jesus Christ, you will live an eternity in hell, devoid of the presence of God forever. Question 2 - What happens if I'm alive when Jesus returns?
3 things will happen when Jesus returns for His believers that are alive on earth. 1) Jesus will descend from heaven with a shout and the sound of the trumpet of God, bringing with Him all those Jesus followers who have previously died. 2) The bodily remains of those who have already died will be raised and transformed into resurrection bodies. 3) Those Jesus followers who are alive at His coming will also be transformed with resurrection bodies. (1 Corinthians, chapter 15, verses 50-55)
Question 3 - What happens to all of us after Jesus returns?
We will be together with Him forever in paradise! He will create a new heaven, and a new earth, where we will worship Him and enjoy a life devoid of the curse of sin, pain, death, or tears. (Revelation chapter 4, verses 10-11) (Revelation chapter 21, verses 3-4 and verse 27) (Revelation chapter 22, verse 3)
As Christ followers we can look with hope into the future for He is coming soon!
