“Amplify: Good Isn’t Good Enough”
Mark 10:17-31
Our Goodness is Never Enough . . .
Jesus is asked the most important question: “What must I do to be saved?” (v.17)
I must realize that I am a sinner.
· In other words, my goodness isn’t good enough. (Psalm 14:3)
o My goodness cannot save me.
o My knowledge of God’s word cannot save me.
o My religiosity cannot save me.
“Teacher, all these I have kept from my youth.” (v.20)
Jesus exposes what the rich young ruler missed.
“You lack one thing: go, sell all that you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” (v.21)
· He failed to see the idolatry in his life.
o He had made possessions his god.
I must repent of my sin and turn to Jesus for the forgiveness of sin.
· In other words, I grieve over my sin and turn to Christ for forgiveness.
o The rich man was grieved but not over his sin. (v.22)
“Disheartened by the saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.” Mark 10:22
It is a difficult thing for a people captivated by the world to surrender their pride and worldly riches for the incorruptible treasure and surpassing worth of knowing Christ.
· But, what seems impossible with man, is possible with God. (v.27)
I must place my full trust in Jesus Christ for my salvation. (And here’s why:)
· All I need is found in all He is. (vv. 28-31)
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” Jim Elliot
