Experiencing God Together - LOVE
Matthew 22:34-40; John 13:33-35; Revelation 2:1-7
The Greatest Commandment . . . (Matthew 22:34-40)
1. Love God—“and you shall love the Lord your God . . .”
o Heart—my emotions
o Soul—my life
o Mind—intellect; understanding; insight
It Looks like . . .
o Obeying His commandments (John 14:15, 21)
o Keeping His Word (John 14:23-24)
o Denying self (surrender) and following Jesus (Luke 9:23)
2. Love People—“and you shall love your neighbor as yourself . . .”
Truth Statement:
God’s redemptive message hangs upon these two realities.
A New Commandment . . . (John 13:34-35)
· Love one another so that the world will know that you are a disciple of Jesus.
“If I speak in the tongues of men and angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging symbol.” 1 Corinthians 13:1
The Warning . . . (Revelation 2:1-7)
· Pursuing what is good and right does not produce a love for God. However, pursuing a love relationship with God produces a desire for what is good and right.
Truth Statement:
Right actions, without love, is pious moralism.
