Mark 6:30-44

DAD AS A SHEPHERD . . .

“And He had compassion on them, because they were like sheep without a shepherd.”  (v. 34)

  • You are like Jesus when you show compassion to those whom God has given you to shepherd.

“And He began to teach them many things.” (v. 34b)

  • The greatest need your child has, above all else, is to know the truth about Jesus.

“You give them something to eat.”  (v. 35-37)

  • Your children need to feast from your table, not the world’s table.

“How many loaves do you have?” (v. 38-44)

  • As a father you will fear that what you have isn’t enough, but God’s grace and provision is more than sufficient.

SHEPHERD WELL . . .

The role of a shepherd is to love, lead, provide, and protect the sheep in their care.  (Psalm 23; John 10)

You will love your children best when they see the love of Christ in you.

“We love because God first loved us . . .” 1 John 4:19

You will lead your children best when they see the leading of Christ in you.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart . . .” Proverbs 3:5-6

You will provide for your children best when they see the provision of Christ in you.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19

You will protect your children well when they see the protection of Christ in you.

“Guard your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.”  Proverbs 4:23
