Acts:  Advancing the Gospel

Luke 24:50-53; Acts 1:1-8

As Followers of Jesus . . .

  • God has commissioned us to participate in the transcendent cause of advancing the gospel.

“ . . . after He (Jesus) had given commands through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom He had chosen.”  Acts 1:2

  • The primary means by which the gospel advances is through the witness of His disciples.

“ . . . and you will be My witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”  Acts 1:8

  • The same Spirit who empowered Christ, is the same Spirit who indwells and empowers us to advance the gospel.

“ . . . but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.”  Acts 1:5

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you . . .” Acts 1:8

Advancing the Gospel . . .

  • Securing the gospel well by holding fast our confession of faith.

“Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful.” Hebrews 10:23

  • Carrying the gospel well by living a life that makes much of Jesus. (1 Corinthians 9:23-27)

  • Passing down the gospel well by sharing with those who do not know Christ.

“But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them?” Romans 10:14
