THE SPIRITUAL BATTLE . . .

  • There is a daily spiritual battle that you will either engage in or be indifferent

“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.  Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.  For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.  Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm.”  Ephesians 6:10-13

  • We give the enemy an advantage when we fail to see, each morning we awake, that we are stepping onto a battlefield that is otherworldly.

  • Indifference happens when we fail to recognize that we live in a war zone of spiritual forces that are bent on deceiving and destroying you.

  • Indifference leads to destruction, but in the life of a Christ-follower engaging in prayer leads to spiritual victory.

  • To engage in the spiritual battle is to pray at all times in the Spirit with alertness and perseverance.

“In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit with all prayer and supplication.  To that end keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints . . .”  Ephesians 6:16-18

THE ENEMY’S TACTICS . . .

“ . . . that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.”

  • The enemy’s desire is to tempt us so that sin might rule us and ultimately destroy

“The thief comes only to steal, and kill, and destroy.”  John 10:10a

THE WEAPONS OF OUR WARFARE . . .

“For though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.  For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.  We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, being ready to punish every obedience, when your obedience is complete.” 2 Corinthians 10:3-6

Watchful praying is our strong defense against the temptations of the enemy.

“Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation.  The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”  Matthew 26:41

  • Satan will always seek to turn God’s testing into an opportunity for temptation.

  • It is for us to pray, and for God to war. (Daniel 10)

“The LORD will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”  Exodus 14:14
