Throughout the Old Testament, the Messiah becomes more clearly defined. The Coming Messiah . . . 1. He would be a prophet like Moses. (Deut. 18:15,18) • He would be chosen by God. • He would be a deliverer of those held captive. • He would speak the words of God. 2. He would be a descendant of King David. (Num. 24:17; Isa. 9:7; Isa. 11:1-2; Luke 1:32-33) 3. He would be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2) 4. He would be born of a virgin. (Isa. 7:14; Luke 1:30-33) 5. He would die for the sins of all and rise from the dead. (Isa. 53:6,12; Ps. 16:10; Acts 13:34-37) If The Crown Fits . . . (John 1:35-51) Andrew, Philip and Nathanael loudly proclaimed, “We have found the Messiah!” Jesus is the only One who has fulfilled all that was prophesied about the Messiah who would come. • Jesus fulfilled what Moses spoke of in the Law. (John 1:45) o He is the chosen one of God (Matthew 3:17) o He is the deliverer of those held captive by sin and death. (Rom. 11:26-27; Colossians 1:13-14) o He spoke the words of God. (John 12:49-50) • Jesus is the descendant of King David. (Matthew 1:1; Luke 2:4; John 7:40-42; Revelation 5:5) • Jesus was born in Bethlehem. (Luke 2; Matthew 2:1) • Jesus was born of a virgin. (Matthew 1:22-23) • Jesus died for the sins of all and rose from the dead. (1 Cor. 15:3-6) All of Scripture points to and finds its fulfillment in Jesus Christ. (John 5:39-40) My Response . . . I believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who has come and I have surrendered my life to Him. I believe that Jesus Christ is the Messiah who has come to save me from my sins, but I have not surrendered my life to Him. I’m not sure what I believe about Jesus Christ, but would like to know more. I don’t believe I need Jesus to save me from my sin.
